For those who don’t know (and those who are new) welcome to highsnlows.
As you know, I am an aspiring singer/ songwriter and artist whose goal is share her love for music and to continue celebrating the greats here on highsnlows. And so, every time I come across a good song or a song that brings back memories or simply one that I think my viewers/ audience will like, I am always inclined to share it with you guys as I’m always thinking of ya’ll!
Today’s pick is the great Ray Charles “Georgia on My Mind”. It’s so soulful and a reminder of what a simple tune, simple lyrics, and an amazing voice can make one feel. Not to mention, my second home is Georgia where my family resides haha. Anyhow, hope this song hits home for you as it has for me.
I’ve been journaling a lot lately, and every time I do I feel a renewed sense of hope and motivation.
It’s almost like I’ve cleared my head space and am ready to start anew in my day/ venture. I suppose it’s a feeling I can’t really explain unless you’ve experienced it yourself. If you’re feeling uninspired and down, I really recommend that you give journaling a try. It gives you an opportunity to give clarity to your thoughts and thoughtfulness to your ideas and inner voice that can often be dampened by other distractions in your love (i.e. work, people’s opinions of you, societal pressures, etc.) It’s really worth the try.
The journal I have been us the “300 Writing Prompts”. I love this journal because it has questions already written for you in every page to get your thoughts and creative juice flowing. While they are simple questions, they are also thought-provoking. A few of my favorite are: “You are the wind’s interpreter. What is it saying?”, “What did you get into trouble for the most when you were a kid?”. Another is “What color do you feel today?”.
As you can see, there are asked in the simple way but also forces you to go deep into your thoughts, and sometimes without even realizing it, at least it had done so for me.
If you are interested, check out the prompt journal down below to purchase on Amazon. I also kindly ask that if there are any purchases in mind you would like to make on Amazon, please purchase through my affiliate link down below (at no extra cost). It would mean the world to me, and would continue to help keep my blog growing!
As you may be aware, I have been working steadily on my Pinterest account which is pretty much an extension of my blog highsnlows. For those who have visited from here, I just wanted to thank ya’ll for the growing views! On a personal note, it feels to good to have my work appreciated and seen, even if it’s just a view or click. On my Pinterest, I share my love for music through vintage pictures of all kinds artists including the legend & the greats, of whom might be your favorite as well. Please check out my account here at @lorrainebau. Hope it brings you some level of joy in your day.
Secondly, as I had announced yearly (this will be my second announcement excuse the excitement haha), I have officially launched my new Etsy shop @ChainofArts, where I will be sharing my love for jewelry making and visual arts. I spend a lot of time creating stuff that are special to me and hope to share further in the community in the future. If you have a chance, please head over to my shop and see if there might be anything you would like to gift for yourself or your loved ones. You will also see the link to my Etsy shop on my Pinterest account as well! More pieces and art work will be coming soon.
@ChainofArts was first created in 2017, however, it was recently that I became active on it. I haven’t made any sales online as of now, but I hope to change that soon as I continue to dedicate more time and add more stuff to the site!
As I always like to say, I really do enjoying putting in the time, effort, and love into all the content I make for you guys. Super glad for the day ones and for all new follows! Wouldn’t know where this blog would be without ya’ll.
New art piece on the site inspired by the social and political climate today.
I will be starting a new series on ‘art activism’ as I feel that is where my heart and purpose lay at the moment.
While in my heart I know I feel a tinge of regret in not participating in the protests here in Los Angeles, I also know that I can channel my support through what I love and that is through, art, reading, and writing.
Just purchased a few books at my local book store in Koreatown, Los Angeles not too long ago in June of last month.
Found some great finds related to music, photography, and law (for preparation as I have hopes of venturing into the legal field sometime in the far future, but will save that discussion for another time.)
I am currently catching up in my reading and have started a new insightful book The Gift by Lewis Hyde. So far, it has helped me recognize the importance creativity & how to nurture it so that we can continue to grow ourselves as an artist and a person of society. Will definitely touch base as I continue to read on & of course write a book review at the end once I am finished.
Anyhow, plenty has happened in the past few days that made only catapulted me to be making the real (long overdue) moves I should’ve been making years ago for my music career. I have written a few pieces that I can’t wait to share with ya’ll & will be collaborated with other artists very soon in the near future. Can’t wait to keep ya’ll updated. Here’s to new beginnings.
So excited to announce that my Pinterest account is growing and was shocked to find close to 5k viewers who have checked out my account since the last month I’ve created it. I also wanted to take the time to thank all of ya’ll who have paid a visit thus far. It means a lot when people follow and take notice of the hard work I put into my content and side business. For those who have been with me since day one (back in 2016 when I first created highsnlows), I am sure you have seen the evolution of what my blog has become which has become a documentation of my passion and love for the arts, social justice issues, and of course, music. And my Pinterest is very much an extension of my passion for music. For those interested, my Pinterest account contains an array of different genres including: jazz, rock n roll, gospel, funk, soul, country, etc. And each genre is divided into decades, to showcase the evolution of music. You’ll find a range of both vintage and contemporary music. In spite of all the doubt & fears, I’ve had about music, I am still so glad I have stuck by it because to me, good music matters more than anything close to me. It brings nostalgia, uplifts you, connects people, conveys messages of important issues otherwise difficult to discuss openly in conversation, and most importantly for me, makes me feel whole; nothing helps me make sense of the world more than music. Anyhow, that is my rant for today thank you again for sticking by or even visiting. Take a peak at my Pinterest here as I hope something in it brings you some level of joy.
Hi, ya’ll not too long ago I went kayaking with friends where we rented equipment at Pro SUP Shop in Marina Del Rey, California. Estimated cost per person was about $30. It was a stunning view and definitely a solid precursor to the moment I learn how to surf in the future 🙂 If ya’ll are looking for a quick getaway and a moment of relaxation and solitude (with a bit of physical exercise) I definitely recommend ya’ll to give kayaking a try if you haven’t yet. Just a tip, in a two person boat — person in the front has more control over power & direction than the back. Back person provides… moral support haha. Kayaking is actually music easier than it looks, just find a flow with everyone on boat and you good to row away to the endless abyss 🙂 Anyway, great time at the beach and perfect time to watch the sunset. Hope ya’ll have fun!
Also thought I’d mention I have new photography up on my gallery which you can check out here. Also, new drawings pieces soon which I can’t wait to sell & share.
Host and comedian Amanda Seales quits The Real Talk Show after she decides that she no longer wants to take part of a public broadcast that does not allow to speak on important issues of racial injustice and inequalities. Rumors are that Seales got fired, but in reality, Seales felt that she was denied the right to speak about matters that were important to her as an African American female. She also struggled facing some level of oppression in her own experience as a black women in Hollywood business. In other words, she felt that her integrity and moral conscious outweighed the benefits of her staring in a talk show that did not feel was just and fair. And quite honestly, I commend her for this decision. For me, Seale’s decision to leave the show reinforces the messages that if you are not happy where you are at, chances are you are not meant to be there, and there are bigger and brighter opportunities ahead of you. Do not ever diminish your own self-value and truth. The truth always prevails.
Hi Ya’ll, not too long ago I was going through my old photos (from years ago) & found some that I added to my collection. I remember when I first realized my love for photography and my teachers/ friends recognized the ‘talent’ or ‘eye’ I had for it– whatever that may mean. I never really pushed for it or pursued it only because I never saw it in me to make a sustainable career for it. Instead, I delved into my school books & work– neglecting all my passions & interests to simply get my degree & move out home. That didn’t stop me from taking photographs, however, wherever I went as a way to escape my reality even if for a short moment. It was also years later when I realized my love for filming & editing too. That’s when I created my #VlogDiaries Series. Though people may not really see it as much, until this day, those videos mean everything to me because of the hard work, effort, and thought I put into each of them. To me, those videos are not to “show off” or even ‘get views’ but a way for myself to reminisce and record my journey of life. As I continue to travel more, I plan to create more videos because I would love to share them with you and the world.
If you are interested, please feel free to check out my photo gallery here.
Hi guys, as you can probably tell from reading my previous posts, I have included links for purchase on any music mentioned on my site.
These files can be downloaded to your computer or any device and placed anywhere as desired. This is a much more safer (& legal) way of downloading and listening to music at anytime to your heart’s content. I’ve attached links to singles which vary from $1-2 & albums which vary $5 & up. As always I always look for the best prices for ya’ll.
I will also be including links to any other items I’ve tried on amazon, and that I deem worthy of suggestion.
Thank you to all my new followers for all your support & lovely feedback!
Don’t know where highsnlows will be without you all!
Billie Holiday born April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959 was birthed by the name Eleanora Fagan. Holiday was an American jazz singer with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Nicknamed “Lady Day” by her friend and music partner Lester Young. Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz music and pop singing.
To me and many others, Holiday was one of the many ladies who were the face to female jazz singers. Her beauty and voice moved many aspiring singers, leaving her mark in jazz history.
Hey guys! It’s been a while since I’ve given ya’ll an update so I thought it was the perfect time to do so. so here it is, the update no one asked for :*. Lately, as I’m with sure with others, I have been diving deep into my own during these rough times. And by that I mean contemplating & reflecting on my life & what my purpose here is on earth & how to get more in touch with that side of me. And odd to say, I have felt support from ‘above’ which has fueled my motivation and drive during these tough times for me.. I know, I know it might sound crazy but I guess this is what it comes to.. I found it has come specifically in the form of triple numbers such as 333, 444, and 555. And though it may sound absurd to a common person, that is all the message I need to keep going. Needless to say, I have never felt this protected & safe in my life.
Anyhow, I’ve been channeling my creativity & energy into my passions/ interests– and that is the arts, books, films, music, and simple content creation. And it has been a while since I have felt that reenergized & rejuvenated emotionally & mentally. As you can probably tell from my earlier posts I have spent a lot of time thinking & exploring & doing music (which I will expand more upon another post). I have pulled out a couple journals for me to write on daily, which I am also excited to share with you guys. And of course, exploring my imagination with new books. Although I do have to admit that I have my moments of unexplained sadness & despair.. I know my lows do give way to the highs I experience as well. I have been spending this time in figuring out my values & what are the most important to me in this time of my life by delving into my passions & using external sources & such. For those interested in personal development, I would totally recommend you guys to check out this site called Numerology. And no, this is not sponsored at all! I found this site on my own & was a bit skeptical for using it, but it was entirely free to try so why not (lol). And I was astonished by the results that were for the most part accurate & insightful into my personality, character, lifestyle, and even predictions. Numerology, like Astrology you can say, is based on a number system dated back 4000 years ago to find hidden patterns & messages that can influence you to make positive choices in your life. If you’d like, you can read more about numerology here. While others may argue it is complete bogus, for me personally, it is largely dictated by where you place your belief. And that really holds true for anything in life. As Ms. Oprah Winfrey once said, “You don’t become what you are, you become what you believe”.
For others listening or might this fall on deaf ears, I think the takeaway of this post is imply to follow your heart, gut & intuition. As you develop it, it is the one thing people can not take away from you.
And for those interested in, while it may sound silly, I think it’s worth a shot for those interested. What’s there to lose? If you guys choose to try it, I’d love to know your input & if it works for you!
As you know sole objective behind my site is spread my love and knowledge for arts & the music– which is what in part led me to create a Pinterest account!
I know for me, and as many others do too, I used to think Pinterest was a way to solely find aesthetic/ cute pictures to browse (which it’s fantastic for) but it didn’t occur to me that I could also use it as a platform to attract more audience to my site, and in effect, inspire may art/ music fanatics out there (woo hoo). It’s crazy how much opportunity there are out there with a simple touch on your mouse pad. I feel more than ready to really put myself out there & create a brand that I have always dreamt of creating. (And again, I thank you each of you for your support & encouragement to allow me to do so)
Anyhow, on my account, I created boards which are organized into an array of genres including: pop, country, soul, jazz, rock, etc. And within those genres, I have divided them into era’s which I think will make it that much easier for viewer to consume & also provide all visitors with a timeline behind the music & artists– as history is important in learning, conceptualizing, and understanding the evolution of music world today.
I am so excited by what I have come up with so far & only hoped it has inspired you. Whether that means searching up a music video on Youtube just to relisten to it, researching a song out of curiosity, or maybe bringing you back in a time or place in your life that evokes some feeling. My Pinterest account will act as extension of to my site, and am stoked for you guys to check it out!
