Netflix just released a new series called Rhythm & Flow, and it’s fire. The show entails stars Chance the Rapper, Cardi B, and T.I. on the hunt for the next rap star. They visit the four biggest cities which resides the hub of music: Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. The winner gets $250,000 cash prize alongside a feature with big name rappers. It’s an all or nothing deal. Let me tell ya’ll somethin’, there was some damn talented rappers out there. You can tell simply by their presentation and delivery, who was serious about winning, and who wasn’t. By their cadence, style, flow, lyricism, and their overall energy who was the real deal. Also who has been in the game the longest! My top favorites are definitely: D Smoke, London B, Flawless, and Rae Kahlil (who I personally think was robbed in this show which you’ll have to watch to find out!). You can tell that they have put some much time, effort, and love in their craft that its so admirable. I think the rap battles is where their artistry and confidence as an artist truly shows. Despite of doubt and tribulation, they did that. It only encourages me to work at my game and to be patient with myself. Because I think all it takes is a little skill, perseverance, faith, and hard work ethic. Those who are natural stars will simply shine brighter period. But it’s up to the people to see it and decide for themselves.

Overall, all that aside, I am a bit skeptical about the judges and the way they have approached the show in terms of their judgments. In my opinion, I think there is possibly a better match team of judges who I think can offer more valuable insight into the art of rapping (though the judges did drop some words of wisdom). Idols, in my opinions, with much higher credibility. In my opinion, there should be legends and more main star appearances of OG rappers like Snoop Dog or even ice cube. I think this will give more overall value to the show. To me, the current judges are simply the face of modern rap music (while Cardi B and Chance the Rapper have somewhat generated a household name for themselves, they haven’t left a legacy that give them the credibility to critique other artists’ work). So it only leaves me under the impression that the show is more a matter of entertainment than the true art of rap (much like how singing competitions like American Idol and The Voice turned out). But any who, who wants to hear about semantics, right?

If ya’ll want to keep up with the culture, I definitely recommend the watch. Certainly not a waste of time if you a fan of the arts yourself. Can also read more about the show here.
