The Lion King: “Spirit” by Beyoncé

As you may already be aware, The Lion King has made headlines and has garnered great attention nationwide. As a blogger, I feel an inclination to address this hype not only because I have seen the news all over my feed these past weeks, but mostly because I feel as though I am seeing a merge of the mainstream pop culture and old time Disney. Sometimes I forget it is 2019, approaching 2020, so times are changing. When I was younger, celebrity icons and Disney were totally two separate entities, but now we see how celebrities are using their fame as a platform to further promote big brands such as Disney to bring its brand to new heights, or as I see it “revive” itself. Not to mention incorporating the representation of black culture, which I am all in for (don’t get me wrong). However, it’s hard to predict whether The Lion King would have had the same outcome if it were not for Beyonce, or whether Little Mermaid would have the same outcome if it were not for Halle Bailey. This piques my interest only because I hope this same social/ racial issue would also be addressed towards other cultures who are getting overshadowed in the mix in the notion of “black vs. white” (i.e. the asian community, etc.). While I am excited for this new movement of the century, I also anticipate it will pave the way for other cultures as well.

With all that said, the making of the video/ movie (& wardrobe) is absolutely stunning.
